UD Professor Ashish Asutosh Joins BPGS Construction for Summer Immersion

This summer, BPGS Construction partnered with University of Delaware Professor Ashish Asutosh from the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering to help bridge that gap for students breaking into the industry.
As a faculty member specializing in construction, sustainable infrastructure, and smart building tech, Professor Ashish focuses on the systems that make modern buildings efficient and resilient and works directly with the next generation preparing to enter the workforce.
Professor Ashish spent several weeks embedded with BPGS Construction, on active job sites including, Nemours Children’s Hospital Administrative Office Building and The Asters. His time was spent getting a direct look at ongoing job sites, field coordination, and the day-to-day operations that drive commercial construction, to better help students understand what to expect when it’s time to transition from paper and textbooks to field and equipment.
Strengthening the Campus-to-Jobsite Pipeline
When asked about direct collaboration between the University of Delaware and BPGS, Professor Ashish said, “Universities cannot survive without industry partners, and industry partners need universities that train students the right way.” He believes that the relationship between BPGS Construction and the university is really just getting started and that the partnership can help ensure academic preparation directly reflects modern industry demands.

Beyond site logistics and project workflows, what stood out most to Professor Asutosh during his time across the portfolio was the consistent operational culture built into every site and every team at BPGS.
The professor said, “Having worked with companies across four different countries, the company culture at BPGS is truly unlike anything I’ve seen before.” He added that “No matter which project site you visit, that same culture is present. People are celebrated for accomplishments, internal promotions, and the lessons learned along the way.”
Most of all, he noted that aside from all the technical execution and formal training, at the end of the day, it is a people business.
