Congratulations to Monica Rizzo on 17 Years at BPGS Construction
December 21, 2023 5:15 pmCongratulations to Project Administration Manager Monica Rizzo on celebrating 17 years at BPGS Construction!
Q: What do you remember about your first project?
A: My first official project here was the Shoprite at Christina Crossing back in 2007, which was BPGS Construction’s first real out of the ground project. This project was significant because, up until then, Downtown Wilmington was pretty much a food desert when it came to large grocery store chains. It was also personally important to me because as soon as it was built my husband Joe started working there and he has been with the Kenny Family Shoprite ever since!
Q: How has your job changed over the years?
A: I was officially the first “Project Coordinator” BPGS hired, up until then projects had Administrative Assistants that did not necessarily have a strong construction background. This allowed me to be part of defining what this role is. I have watched this job continuously evolve as technology evolved. An example of this is when I first started, Project Coordinators assembled paper copies of bid packages. These bid packages were massive and typically included a set of drawings & specifications (which could include hundreds of pages depending on how big the project was), proposal forms, environmental reports, front end documents, etc. Now we have basically gone paperless thanks to all the different software programs that are out there now. Instead of managing paper files, we manage online filing. We can complete tasks much more quickly and efficiently now.
Q: What has been your biggest professional achievement/success while at BPGS?
A: I would have to say that my biggest achievement is continuously being a stable resource for others within the company. Everyone knows that they can reach out to me with all types of questions, and I will do my best to get them the answer they need. You would be surprised how often I get asked for information for a property from before 2010. Just a few weeks ago I was asked if I could find the specifications for the washer and dryer at CoreTen because they were no longer working. I had to go back to the different fit out folders for that space before it was CoreTen to locate the information (For those who are curious, the CoreTen space has been Johnny Fitness, Bike Boutique & Plexus).
Q: What is your favorite part of working for BPGS?
A: My favorite part of working here is the people. I always say the culture we have created here is like “lightening in a bottle”. We all work so well together because we genuinely like and respect one another and that is probably what sets us apart from other companies.
At BPGS Construction we are proud to have a company culture that fosters growth. Are you interested in working for a company that offers meaningful work opportunities, career development possibilities, competitive pay and benefits, and an environment that recognizes and balances personal and work needs?
