BPGS Construction and Buccini Pollin Group deliver The Press, a 243-Unit Luxury Apartment Community at 801 Orange Street in Wilmington, Marking a Record Year for Development.

On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, BPGS Construction, in partnership with Buccini Pollin Group (BPG), celebrated the grand opening of The Press, a 243-unit luxury community at 801 N. Orange Street in downtown Wilmington. The project underscores BPGS Construction’s expertise to building state-of-the-art, ground-up residences and transforms the former The News-Journal headquarters site.

Wilmington’s Newest Luxury Apartment Community

The $90 million community was designed by Perkins Eastman. It includes a 14-story tower, a 4-story brick-clad building with 2-story townhomes, and two levels of apartment flats. The 1.15-acre site offers studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments and duplexes. The high-rise uses post-tension concrete construction with a modern, unitized curtain wall façade.

Amenities elevate resident living while complementing the surrounding neighborhood. Exterior highlights include a glass-and-metal façade, covered porte-cochere, swimming pool, dog park, courtyard, grilling stations, patio, and a fourth-floor roof deck with downtown views. Interior amenities feature a resident lounge, social dining space, coffee bar, full-size fitness center, demo kitchen, and more. Residences include quartz countertops, ceiling-height cabinets, kitchen islands, stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets, and in-unit laundry.

The grand opening caps a landmark year for BPGS Construction. Other key projects include Humble Park Place, a 61-unit Market Street community, and Phase 2 of The Standard, which delivered 174 luxury units and new amenities. The projects highlight BPGS’ expertise in historic restoration and ground-up builds.

BPGS broke ground on The Press in Fall 2023. Its completion advances the transformation of Downtown Wilmington into a true live-work-play destination. The location places residents moments from Riverfront attractions and the heart of the city’s growing culture. Throughout the duration of development, the project generated 315 construction jobs.

Ribbon-cutting remarks came from Wilmington Mayor John Carney and BPG Founder Rob Buccini.

“The Press exemplifies our commitment to creating exceptional residential experiences in the heart of Wilmington,” said Rob Buccini, founder, Buccini Pollin Group. “This project delivers more than housing — it builds a community where residents can live, work, and thrive.”
